This journal used to be written in English a long time ago. Now I write only in German anymore. Sorry.

I avoided to make this post for some time now. Because I didn't really want to make this journal "Friends only". But when I look at all the posts I made the last weeks - they are all friends-locked. I just feel much more confortable this way. I sometimes posts about fandom-stuff, but mostly about random other things in my life.

If you want to be added, just comment.
crazylilly: (LJ <3)
So, after nearly a decade at this site, LJ finally does something that makes me actually rage. No popcorn and laughing as the masses storm to news posts complaining, this time I'm actually worried.

A while back I was invited to help out with BETA testing new LJ services (I got this invite via [livejournal.com profile] lj_releases).

They have just announced BETA testing of a new friendslist.

LJ is planning on redoing everyone's friendslists in the style of the new comment page and update page. They want to copy tumblr and make your friendslist into a dashboard-like system page (infinite scrolling and all). It's also been renamed to "feed" (this I don't mind too much, though). In fact the whole dashboard idea with infinite scrolling wouldn't be so bad if it weren't for the fact that everyone will be locked to one specific layout. The system style comment pages are bad enough, but now I'll have to strain my eyes reading my flist? That defeats the purpose of this entire site. The font, use of whitespace, oversized boxes and UI elements ... all contribute to making the page difficult to read, on a site where all you do is read. Aaaah. Even just the possibility of adjusting the font (style and size) would make this suggestion easier to swallow, but it's still not something I'd want for my journal. It would not improve my LJ experience in any way (in fact it would most likely make my daily LJ activities more time consuming).

Now, I wasn't able to make the BETA page display my own friendslist, so I apologise to the random users who are featured in the screenshot, but to give everyone an idea, the below image shows you what your friendslist probably will look like in a couple of months.

(Click for big)

I never switched over from Dystopia, so that adds to the weirdness. You're going to have to picture this with the standard LiveJournal drop down navigation + no blue sidebar to the left. Click the screenshots for bigger versions.

Top of page with links to journal, archive, profile

Example of text heavy post as displayed on friendslist

New buttons to the right replace the navigation strip. One tab for filters

One tab for Archive/Calendar, you can filter your feed to display posts from one specific date. These buttons follow along as you scroll down the page (infinite scrolling).

All friendslists will look the same.

Snippet from the locked post at [livejournal.com profile] lj_releases:
The friends page has been redesigned as a system page for all users, and is now available for Beta testers. There is a link at the top of your friends page allowing you to switch between the new and old versions, and will later go into public beta testing. You can switch back and forth between both versions throughout beta testing.

PUBLIC POST AT [livejournal.com profile] lj_releases ABOUT THE NEW FRIENDSLIST: http://lj-releases.livejournal.com/79480.html.

You can also see the proposed changes for yourself by enabling the BETA on your own journal (instructions from [livejournal.com profile] ruljautonews):
It's trivially easy to test beta features.
1) Go to [livejournal.com profile] lj_ru_beta and request to join.
2) Wait to get confirmation that you've been accepted into the community (this could take a few hours.)
3) Go to this page and choose Go To under Beta.
4) That's it, you're now testing the beta release. All site-scheme pages should now display a big "BETA BETA BETA BETA BETA BETA" in yellow letters across the top.
5) You could make comments in the [livejournal.com profile] lj_ru_beta post, but if you do please keep this in mind: the majority of commenters there don't speak English and if they do it's not their primary language. Machine translation of Russian is lousy. "My hovercraft is full of eels" lousy. While you can engage in basic dialogue and get a feel for what the other person is saying, don't get too hung up on anyone's phrasing.

You can easily switch back to the old version.

Make sure you let LJ know what you think of these proposed changes, I can't be the only one who thinks this is a horrible idea.

ETA: It's nice to see that I'm not the only one worried about the proposed changes, but please direct your feedback through the proper channels. This is a private journal, I have no affiliation with LJ. Please also be respectful when addressing the LJ staff. They are just doing their jobs. Thanks!

Ich hasse so was.
Sch...ade :(.
Das war's! :)

I did defriend some people tonight. It happened because we never talked, never clicked. If you want to be back on my flist, PM me.

crazylilly: Mine (fall)
I just tried to write an entry in English. And I realized one thing: I can't really do it. I know my German entries are much longer than the English entries. Funny, since I usually don't have to think about writing in English at all. But I realized I can't really express myself in English the way I want to. On the other hand I feel bad writing in German since there are some friends on my flist I really like and I feel bad to kinda ignore them this way. But I have to say, right now I feel like writing for myself here. So please don't be mad, but I'm afraid there will be mostly German entries - at least right now. I just thought I should tell you.

I'm just watching a German TV-movie. And this guy - Vladimir Burlakov is incredible. Absolutely incredible. Wow.

New phone

I want a new mobile phone. I had a HTC a few years ago. I loved it. And I still use it - not as a phone, but kinda like an PDA. I read fanfiction on it and I love the Outlook calendar on it. But I didn't really like it as an phone. The "voice quality" (???) was not good. So I got a new phone 2 years ago, that was just that. A simple and easy Nokia. It's good as a phone, but nothing else. I don't like the handling of the Nokia system at all.

So, now I want a new phone. And I want a really fancy touch-screen-system with lots and lots of possibilities ;). I want a good camera, I want to use the internet with it, I need GPS (Geo caching!!!), I want to use it as a calendar and so on.
And now I have a problem: what operating system? I don't want an IPhone. Android sound good, but I need a Google account to sync the calendar, contacts etc. with it. And I really really don't want that. I don't want to give my data to Google at all. It might be very easy to use, but I don't trust them at all. Nokia's Symbion - as I said, I don't like it at all. WebOS needs a constant Internet connection. That's really not what I want. And now we are back to Windows Mobile. It's not comfortable to use. But I can sync the phone with my PC offline. I don't need to store my data somewhere in the internet. And HTC has it's own really nice looking GUI for it.

But the HTC-phone has a camera that's not really good. And it's really expensive - more than 500 Euros. So now I really don't know what to do. Am I geeky enough to spend that much money on a phone???? ;)

And did I mention that I want the phone NOW! Whenever I start reading about new and exciting new gadgets and stuff I usually want it NOW! Like a kid with a new toy ;).

We wanted to go climbing with my sister in law and her girlfriend yesterday. But they couldn't make it - and I didn't want to go with just my husband. But we had the babysitter anyway and decided to go to the movies instead. And we had the same problem as often before - there was nothing we really wanted to see. In the end we agreed on the preview of "Prince of Persia". I'm usually not a big fan of mindless action movies. But I was surprised - I really liked this movie. The reviews I read before were not good at all. But it wasn't half as bad as the made it look like. Of course there were massive plot-holes in it. And the characters were not unique. But: Jake was (surprisingly) good - even if he has even more intensive puppy-eyes than Jared. And he looked really good. I didn't like the pictures of him with the long hair and all the muscles to much. But he was good - and good looking in the movie.
So, if you want to have a really nice evening with a good popcorn-movie, go and see this one. I had a lot of fun.

I don't know what to cook tonight. Has anybody an idea? - I don't have a lot of time (more like no time? Maybe 20 or 30 minutes). And I have to go and buy groceries anyway. Please hit me with ideas!

Dresden

I just found this amazing page - Dresden from one of our highest buildings. And you can zoom into the picture. It's really amazing.

Not a lot going on in my life right now. Just the same old every day. Working, going to the kindergarten to get the little girl (the older girl is going home from school alone), looking if the older girl did all her homework in school, taking care of the household, making dinner - and falling dead tired on the couch after the kids are finally sleeping. So not a lot of time left for something to really happen. But:
  • I did watch all of the "Life UneXpected" so far last week. And I really really love the show - the characters and the idea of the plot. I really hope The CW will give them a second season. But (cut for spoilery reason) )
  • I did watch the first two episodes of parenthood.  I think I really like it, too.
  • I want to do a Vampire Diaries-marathon with hubby this week. We watch the episodes they are showing in German TV, when we are at home (usually Wednesday is our "date-night").
  • I bought new shoes this weekend. And I'm not buying a lot of them usually. But right now I really feel like "new shoes". Usually I prefer sneakers and just really comfortable shoes. But this are pumps with an 2,5 inch-heel. I'm wearing them today. And I really hope my feet won't hurt to much tonight ;).
  • Still knitting in the evenings. Right now - surprise - socks for my niece.

During the last years we saw one band playing in the streets of Dresden for a few times. I actually loved them enough to look for them in the web. They were incredible - really amazing music with a lot of dynamic. And right now it looks like they may actually became quite well know. They were in a casting show last summer and they will be one of the bands that will try out for the European Song Contest. And their first album will be released these days. I would really recommend to check them out. They are amazing.
